Large Format Technical Poster from Word Doc – Applicos
Client: Applicos (The Netherlands) 9/24/2015 to 10/1/2015 Overview: Working remotely, I developed poster describing the technical process of "Improving ADC & DAC Characterization" by accomplishing "clock jitter cancelation in coherent data converter testing." What does that mean exactly? I have no idea. Requirement: Include content received in a 9-page Word document with diagrams, images, calculations and workflow. Is that it? Any other guidance? Nope. We just need a poster with all this info... right away! Got it! Final Output: 36 inch x 48 inch poster printed on vinyl to display at a symposium, intended to be viewed from a distance of 2 to 5 feet. Process: Concepted the project entirely in InDesign using Illustrator and Photoshop only as necessary for optimizing certain images and diagrams. Developed overall style utilizing company colors, otherwise, so long as everything fit and was readable from 2-5 feet away I was pretty much free to do what I wanted. The Challenge: Primarily space optimization, making everything fit and make sense visually was fun! The images were initially placed at about 60% the size you see them in the final. Client said "make them bigger!" With proper use of paragraph and object styles modifications were relatively easy as content was laid in and shuffled. Also, it wasn't clear at the start that they wanted it to have a look and feel of a workflow or process. I suggested numbering and other hierarchical elements, coloring, use of an element from their logo, etc.. We worked together on copy editing/trimming. Satisfied Client: Definitely.
